Insulate your home
Insulate your home. Sounds obvious to most of us now, but most UK homes do not have the recommended amount of insulation. By properly insulating your home you could save £180 a year on your heating bills. What’s more, cutting down the energy your home wastes will help tackle climate change at the same time. Home energy use is responsible for over 25% of all CO2 emmissions. Make sure your hot water cylinder is well insulated. Maybe a new one is the answer, and we can provide a fast service for replacement and upgrade. All pipe work in the area of the cylinder should be insulated – a simple task that is often overlooked. If you use an immersion heater then this is doubly important due to the high cost of electrical supply. Insulate your loft. Around half the heat lost in a typical home escapes through the walls and roof. Check the thickness of what you already have, and if it is not at least 270mm thickness, then a small investment in this area will produce lower bills and lower carbon emissions. Grants may be available from your local authority. Warm Front Grants. Grants to improve your heating and energy efficiency may be available from the government, dependant on your circumstances. Your local authority will be able to advise on this. You can also visit The Energy Saving Trust for more information. |
