Insulate your home

Green energy efficient insulationFit modern heating controls. Many central heating systems installed over 5 years ago function well, but maybe the control system is in need of an update. By installing thermostatic radiator valves, heat reflective foil behind the radiator, and modern time switches then you can cut your heating bills without spending large amounts on a new boiler. Call us for advice – a chat costs nothing, and you may be surprised at the low cost of upgrading your heating.

Insulate your home. Sounds obvious to most of us now, but most UK homes do not have the recommended amount of insulation. By properly insulating your home you could save £180 a year on your heating bills. What’s more, cutting down the energy your home wastes will help tackle climate change at the same time. Home energy use is responsible for over 25% of all CO2 emmissions.

Make sure your hot water cylinder is well insulated. Maybe a new one is the answer, and we can provide a fast service for replacement and upgrade. All pipe work in the area of the cylinder should be insulated – a simple task that is often overlooked. If you use an immersion heater then this is doubly important due to the high cost of electrical supply.

Insulate your loft. Around half the heat lost in a typical home escapes through the walls and roof. Check the thickness of what you already have, and if it is not at least 270mm thickness, then a small investment in this area will produce lower bills and lower carbon emissions. Grants may be available from your local authority.

Green Energy saving lightbulbEnergy saving light bulbs. The new style of energy efficient bulbs are stylish, give out the same coloured light as you are used to, and some can even be used with dimmer switches. Prices are coming down all the time – and our vans carry stock of these so that you can try them out at a small cost. They can save over £ 60 in electricity usage over their life span, so a sensible buy.

Warm Front Grants. Grants to improve your heating and energy efficiency may be available from the government, dependant on your circumstances. Your local authority will be able to advise on this. You can also visit The Energy Saving Trust for more information.
